By now everyone in my circle is probably familiar with the really incredible polymer stamps that Kindred Stamps produces. I haven’t shared one of my favorite parts of their stamps, it is that these polymer stamps almost NEVER need “conditioning”. Every time I pop a new set out of its packaging it almost always stamps perfectly on my first try!
But, did you know that Audra from Kindred Stamps also hand carves stamps? Oh, that is right. I purchased a couple from her and I LOVE them. I am such a huge Star Trek nerd that it was incomprehensible that I wouldn’t purchase her Star Trek insignia stamp. I bought this before I applied for her design team, and her nerdy stamps are what made me NEED to be on her team! I haven’t been disappointed by my joining her team at all, it has been beyond amazing!
Today I decided to share a card that I made using one of her hand carved images. Originally I tried to make my space background using watercolors, but I wasn’t entirely pleased with the result. Taking that panel, I decided to use Distress Inks, to create a cosmic background in the typical fashion. This was the best decision! The layers of color in the background is AMAZING. I topped the cosmic background off with the flicking of white acrylic paint to create “stars”.
I should add, that I knowingly used “dirty” water when I watercolored this. I created this card shortly after another which used a LOT of iridescent paint. That shimmer from that “dirty” water, still shows through even after the distress ink. In person, this card is simply magical.
To get the sentiment I downloaded a free font package online of a font that looked pretty darn Star Trek related. After installing the font I typed out my sentiment using Microsoft Word and printed it on my Neenah Solar White cardstock in 80lb. Then I stamped the hand carved stamp with some Versamark Watermark Ink and embossed the stamped image with Hero Arts gold embossing powder. To tie all the various panels into each other, I embossed all the edges with the same embossing powder.
This was a really incredibly fun card to work on. I will hopefully re-create the background and do a video tutorial on how I achieved this look. If you choose to make a purchase from Kindred Stamps, which I encourage wholeheartedly, I suggest using my discount code: HANNAH10 for 10% off!
